Wall Space

by gungus on December 2, 2007

As is typically the case in my life, ebay has caused a slight interest to become an immediate compulsion to move close to full-on addiction. The fuel this time? Concert Posters. I don’t know where it started but I can guess. One part graphic design, one part music; a dash of audience-induced longevity (as all art is)? C’mon, that’s me. I’m the human rendition of a concert poster. Graphics inspired by music! Or not.

There’s another aspect. My cuz gave me a silk screened poster for the band TOOL way back in the day. “Sorry, no devils on the walls in my house,” was what he said. And I understood his point:

I took the poster and had to agree, no devil on my walls either. So the poster was filed away and I forgot about it. 10 years went by. I found it a month ago. And because I’m down with the church of latter day ebay,  I’m looking to get rid of it. And fund my new poster addiction (see below) in the process.

Off to ebay to do some market research…how much were others going for? Good news, I couldn’t find any! That means it’s rare!

Hey, btw, there are a lot of posters on ebay!

Read that last line again. That’s what leads us to my current situation; approximately 450 square feet of posters for 300 square feet of wall space. These numbers aren’t verified but believe me, they’re close.

Anyhoot, here I am watching Neil Diamond and thinking about the rapidly shrinking real estate on the walls around me. I just framed three to go with what’s already there:

This was my original from a show I saw with Sean a few years back in San Francisco.

Another original that has been on my wall since the mid nineties.

So…with those as a start. I started looking for posters on eBay. I started with the Hip:

You might be asking me why there’s two of the above posters? Is that a mistake? Um, no. It’s not. As is typically the case with me…I pulled a sweet move and bid on two of the same posters at the same time. And, as is typical, I won them both. Of course. Are these things calculated? Or, should I say, not calculated? Doh.

From the recent show we saw at the El Rey.

This is bad but it gets worse. There were other bands too.

so, arrows going thru the chest of a naked woman who appears to be coming thru a vajayjay is somehow more ‘wall-appropriate’ than the devil poster? oh david.
