The Tragically Hip at Club Nokia

by gungus on October 29, 2009

IMG_2668

An unbelievable show at Club Nokia in down town LA. Syn and I rolled in to see an 11:00 start after “Hockey Night in Canada” came to LA. We were there in plenty of time (even said hi to Paul outside) and took our places on the front rail. As always, the Hip didn’t dissapoint.

Not positive about the setlist…but it was close to this:
NOIS
Depression Suite
In View
ABAC
Gift Shop
Morning Moon
Bob C
Nautical Disaster
Grace
Coffee Girl
Thompson Girl
Last Recluse
Wheat Kings
Poets
Courage
Family Band
Blow

E – Love is a First
E – Music at Work

Here’s a video of High Dough. I had a beer and couldn’t clap. I was just banging my free hand on the rail…and it hurt! …Gord was looking at me and telling me to put my beer between my legs so I could clap along. Sweet.

And here’s a vid of Gord eating off my head like a monkey after a NOIS opener. Great show!

U2 at the Rose Bowl

October 25, 2009

U2 at the Rosebowl was everything I expected. It was a crowded, fun filled night of seeing one of my favorite bands with some of my favorite friends. From the moment our mullet-headed driver Mike pulled up in the 1989 White Licoln Continental Limo; the show; the parking lot; the final breaking and entering of [...]

Drums in My Space.

August 26, 2009

They finally let Paulo Mattioli go. It was bound to happen. This economy and all. The decision was made a few months back to close the drum room at work. It was sad but due to the current budget restraints it was just too much to keep the doors open to say nothing of the [...]

U2 – No Line on the Horizon

March 3, 2009

It’s not an easy record, and it’s complex. “[Get on Your] Boots” is one of those things where our audience is kind of divided on whether they think it’s a good or bad thing. I’m very pleased with it. I think it shakes it up a bit, and we need to do that. We’ve had [...]

Metallica at the Forum

December 19, 2008

Where do I begin? Mike Root at Springfield College in Springfield Massachusetts, I suppose. He started this whole thing, truth be told. I remember walking across the hallway on the ground floor of Gulick Hall the first day of my freshman year and into the adjacent room. 127 I think it was, but I can’t [...]

Striving for Diamonds not Coal

September 16, 2008

“We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein. It gets a bit dark down here but looks like we’ve found diamonds not coal. I thought a while back we might have the album wrapped by now, but why come up above ground now if there’s more priceless stuff to be found?” – Bono on U2′s Upcoming 2009 [...]

Sad but True

May 14, 2008

This was as close to Metallica as we would come. Jace and I traveled up to the Wiltern but to no avail. What a horrible excursion. Such high hopes to see the boys close to home in a tiny venue. It was not to be.

DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist & A Kid Named Koala

February 15, 2008

Last night G and I went to see DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist at the Aneheim HOB. The whole night was awesome. When we got there, we walked through the ever surreal Downtown Disneyland. The place truly is the happiest place on earth. Kinda creepy though. Once inside, I was shocked to see Kid Koala [...]
